Top, heart and base are a sequence, not a list. The top notes are the small, volatile ones — citrus, eucalyptus, bergamot — and they announce themselves in the first few minutes, then thin out. The heart is what the room actually smells of for most of a burn. The base is heavy and slow, and it is what you notice an hour after you have put the candle out and walked back into the room. Worth knowing about the wax itself: coconut-soy blends melt at a lower temperature than paraffin, so they burn cooler and throw more gently. That is a property of the wax, not a performance promise — it means a natural-wax jar generally scents a smaller radius than a synthetic one of the same size, and it means the melt pool takes longer to form on the first light.

This set is four scents wide, but it does not cover everything. Make The Most Of Your Candle
Four candles, one method. The first burn of each jar is the one that decides how the other burns go.
- Cut the wick back to roughly 5mm before every burn, first burn included
- On the first light, leave it going until the melted wax reaches the glass all the way round
- Keep it on a level, heat-resistant surface, away from curtains, open windows, children and pets
- Three to four hours at a stretch is the ceiling; let the wax cool fully before relighting
- Stop burning once roughly 1cm of wax is left at the base, and never leave a lit candle alone in a room
- 1 Trim before you lightCut the cotton wick down to about 5mm every single time, including the very first burn. A long wick is what makes a flame flare, flicker and soot the inside of the glass. Small scissors or a nail clipper will do; drop the trimmed piece in the bin, not in the wax.

A lit candle is an open flame in a glass container, and it should be treated as one. Never leave one burning in a room you have walked out of, and never leave one burning overnight. Keep all four jars out of reach of children and pets — a cat's tail passing over an open flame is the commonest accident with jar candles. Burn on something heat-resistant and level. The glass gets genuinely hot near the base on a long burn, so move it by the rim or wait until it has cooled, and do not put it down on a polished table without a coaster. Keep the wax pool clear of trimmed wick, matchsticks and anything else that can catch. Stop burning once roughly 1cm of wax is left, since below that the flame sits too close to the base of the glass. If the flame ever starts smoking, flickering hard or climbing, put it out, let it cool, trim the wick and check for a draft before relighting.

About This Candle
What this actually is
Four jar candles, sold together. Each one is a coconut and soy wax blend poured into clear glass with a single lead-free cotton wick and a black metal screw cap, roughly 65mm tall and 60mm across — about the footprint of a tea mug. That size matters more than it sounds. It is a candle for one room, one table, one corner of an evening. It is not a candle for a hall.
The blend is worth understanding. Coconut and soy waxes melt at a lower temperature than paraffin does, which is why the pool takes its time to form and why the scent carries a shorter distance. Paraffin will out-throw this every time. What you get instead is a wax that burns cooler and does not need a synthetic base to lift the fragrance off the surface.
The scent story
Four different builds, not four shades of the same one. Ancient Forest opens cold and sharp — pine, eucalyptus, citrus — settles into cedarwood, fir needle and clove, and finishes on sandalwood, musk and amber. It is the coldest of the four and the least sweet.
Evening Chai starts on cardamom, ginger and cinnamon, moves through black tea, clove and nutmeg, and lands on vanilla, tonka bean and creamy musk. It is the one that smells like a kitchen mid-boil rather than a spa.
Jaipur Gardens is the richest: rose, geranium and bergamot on top, jasmine, peony and lily of the valley through the middle, white musk, sandalwood and amber underneath. Summer Evenings is the lightest — citrus, ocean breeze and green leaves, then jasmine, lavender and muguet, resting on driftwood, musk and amber.
The order these arrive in is the same for all four. The bright top notes go first and fade fastest. The heart is what the room smells of for most of the burn. The base is what is still there after you have put it out.
How to burn them well
Trim to about 5mm before every burn. Let the first burn of each new jar run until the melted wax reaches the glass all the way round — this is the one instruction that changes how the whole jar behaves, because wax sets a memory at that edge and every later burn follows it. Three to four hours at a stretch, then let it cool. Snuff rather than blow.
One practical thing about owning four: do not light all four in the same room at once. Four fragrance builds fighting each other reads as noise, not as four scents. Give each one its own evening, or its own room.
Who this suits
Someone who has not settled on a scent yet, and would rather find out across four evenings than commit to one full jar. Someone furnishing a first flat or a hostel room. Someone buying a gift for a person whose taste they cannot guess — the spread across woody, spiced, floral and fresh-green means at least one of the four is going to land.
Who this does not suit
If you already know exactly what you want, a set is the wrong shape of purchase — you will burn one jar and leave three on the shelf. Buy the single you want instead. If you specifically want spiced and cosy, Evening Chai on its own is the buy. If you want cold and green over warm and sweet, Ancient Forest is. And if what you actually want is the smell of the first rain on dry ground, none of these four do it — First Raindrops does, and it is not in this box.
One honest limitation
These jars are small and the wax is natural, and both of those things point the same way: a soft throw. One jar will scent a regular bedroom, a study corner or a balcony seating area. It will not scent an open-plan living-dining room, and it will not scent a whole floor. If you have a large space, you need more than one jar in it, or a larger candle than this.
Storage and safety
Cap on between burns, stored cool and out of direct sunlight — sun does more damage to a candle's fragrance than months of sitting unlit. Burn on a level, heat-resistant surface, away from curtains, drafts, children and pets. The glass gets hot near the base on a long burn. Stop burning once about 1cm of wax remains. Never leave one alone in a room, and never leave one burning overnight.

How long does one jar last?
We are not going to give you a number in hours, because we have not run a documented burn test on these jars and any figure we printed would be a guess dressed up as a measurement.
What we can tell you is what it depends on: how well you trimmed the wick, whether the first burn was allowed to reach the glass, and whether there was a draft. A tunnelled jar can waste a third of its wax. A jar burned properly uses nearly all of it.
Is the wax actually natural?
Yes. It is a coconut and soy blend, with a lead-free cotton wick, poured into clear glass. No paraffin.
The trade-off is worth knowing before you buy: natural blends melt cooler and throw more gently than paraffin, so the scent stays closer to the jar. If you have burned a cheap paraffin candle that filled a whole floor of the house, this will feel softer. That is the wax doing what natural wax does, not a fault.
Is it safe to burn in a small closed room?
A small room is where a jar this size works best — a bedroom, a hostel room, a study corner. What matters is not the size of the room but the airflow and what is nearby: level heat-resistant surface, nothing flammable within reach, and out of the path of a fan.
Do not shut every window and burn for hours. Any open flame uses oxygen and puts out some soot, however clean the wax. Three to four hours at a stretch is a sensible ceiling, and a slightly open window is better than none.
Will it tunnel?
Only if you let it. Tunnelling starts on the first burn — wax sets a memory ring at whatever edge the melt pool reached, and every later burn follows that same ring downward, leaving a wall of unused wax stuck to the glass.
So the first light is the one that matters. Leave it going until the melted surface reaches the glass all the way round, even if that takes longer than you had planned to sit there. If it has already tunnelled, you can sometimes recover it by wrapping foil loosely over the top for one long burn.
Can I reuse the jar afterwards?
Yes, and it is designed for it — clear glass with a black metal screw cap, about the size of a tea mug.
To clean it out: pour hot water in, let the leftover wax float loose as it cools, lift the disc off and wipe the rest with a paper towel. Pull the metal wick tab out with pliers. Then it is a jar for pens, clips, earrings, spice, cotton pads, or a small plant cutting.
Is it safe around pets?
The main risk with any candle and any pet is the flame, not the wax. A tail or a curious nose passing over an open flame is the commonest accident, so burn these where a cat cannot jump and a dog cannot knock the jar over — not on a low table, not on a windowsill a cat uses as a road.
On fragrance specifically: some households find scented candles bother a pet's nose more than a person's, and cats are more sensitive than dogs. If a pet leaves the room every time you light one, take that seriously and burn it somewhere else. If your pet has a respiratory condition, ask your vet rather than us.
Does the scent fade if the jar sits unlit for months?
Fragrance in wax does soften over a long unlit stretch, especially at the top of the jar where the surface has been exposed to air. It is not that the candle stops working — the first few minutes of the next burn can just read fainter than you remember.
Keep the metal cap screwed on between burns, and store the jars somewhere cool and dark rather than on a sunny sill. Sunlight is harder on a candle than time is.
